What caught VMW readers’ attention in October: Coffee, cashless and changing markets
Leadership changes at major coffee and unattended retail companies, new opportunities in workplace services and developments affecting vending operations were among the stories attracting VendingMarketWatch.com readers in October.
The month’s most-read coverage also reflected interest in the expanding reach of unattended retail, from a 24-hour micro market serving military personnel in Greece to partnerships in payment technologies. Beverage innovation, corporate recognition and industry advocacy rounded out the mix.
Coffee and workplace services remain in focus
Coffee industry developments figured prominently in October’s readership. Together, the stories reflect interest in both the business decisions shaping major coffee brands and the services and products that could influence future customer demand.
Keurig Dr Pepper’s appointment of Russ Torres to lead its future Global Coffee Co. drew attention to a major restructuring of the global coffee business. Torres will oversee the integration of Keurig Dr Pepper’s and JDE Peet’s coffee operations ahead of a planned separation in early 2027.

Meanwhile, Lavazza’s expansion in Hong Kong highlighted how the OCS supplier is leaning into store growth with specialty beverage offerings.
Unattended retail expands its reach
Two popular stories illustrated how unattended retail technology is being deployed across different locations.
At Naval Support Activity Souda Bay in Greece, a new Navy Exchange micro market provides around-the-clock access to food, beverages and everyday essentials. The installation addresses a specific service gap for military personnel working overnight, when traditional dining facilities are closed.
On the technology side, Nayax and Getnet announced a partnership to expand integrated cashless payment services across Latin America and Iberia. The agreement combines Nayax’s unattended payment technology with Getnet’s local acquiring network.
Legislation and leadership decisions carry operational implications
Readers also followed developments that could affect the operating environment for vending and unattended retail businesses.
The Common Cents Act’s passage through Congress was a notable regulatory story. The legislation retained a provision requiring the Treasury Department to evaluate potential effects on vending machines and other coin-accepting equipment before adopting a lower-cost nickel composition. The safeguard underscores the importance of NAMA’s operator engagement and industry advocacy efforts when policy changes could carry equipment and operating costs for vending businesses.
