Colorado Lawmakers Alter Bill To Restrict Trans Fats In School Vending Machines

Colorado has given preliminary approval to a revised bill to ban trans fats in school cafeterias and vending machines. The revised bill exempts more than half of the state's school districts by adding an amendment that districts with fewer than 1,000 students, according to The Denver Post in Denver, Colo. Editor’s Insight: Colorado legislators need to find a more sensible way to address concern about trans fats. Exempting half the school districts based on population doesn’t sound like a smart approach. If trans fats are harmful, why would only districts with lower populations be considered at risk?
