General Mills Publishes Seven Snacking Trends To Watch In C-Stores

The Consumer Insights team from General Mills Convenience & Foodservice analyzed the latest snacking data and consumer behavior and came up with seven trends and opportunities for c-stores in 2016, according to NACS.

The list of seven trends includes:

Modern Mash-Ups: Consumers are looking to mix and match flavors, so the company recommends offering multicultural offerings or adding exciting flavors like wasabi or Sriracha.

Back-to-Basics: Offer health-conscious offerings with protein that are also high in natural fats.

Make It Mine: Customization is huge for consumers, so offering a topping bar or something similar.

Fresh= Real Food: Expand refrigerated and fresh options, including grab-and-go options such as eggs and cheese.

Transparency: See-thru packaging is a plus in today’s world where consumer are concerned with what’s in the food they eat.

Shrinkage: Small packaging and mini treats let consumers indulge while keeping health goals.

Meal Time Blur: Consumers may want non-traditional foods as snacks, such as cereal. This means that products should be flexible as a meal or snack option.
