The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission in Glendale, CA, agreed on Monday that more low-calorie, low-sugar items should be stocked in the 50 vending machines on public property, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Proposed revisions include that fruit and vegetable drinks would need to be at least 50 percent real juice, with no added sugars or artificial sweeteners. In addition, the machines would need to carry snacks where no more than 35 percent of the calories come from fats, the source reports. The healthy vending policy for consideration would apply to 100 percent of the snacks and beverages sold in vending machines.
According to the source the Commission wants more information on the matter before finalizing a recommendation to the City Council.
