New Jersey Vendor To Install 3,000 Crane Telemetry Units

April 18, 2013

Crane Merchandising Systems’ Streamware brand announced that Culinary Ventures Vending, a vending operation based in Union, N.J., has purchased 3,000 of Crane's Currenza™ Navigator telemetry units for the online connectivity of the company’s vending equipment.

Navigator is one of the most flexible and advanced retrofit telemetry devices on the market, enabling mesh networking and supporting both wired (Ethernet) and wireless connections from multiple wireless carriers (AT&T, Sprint and Verizon), according to Crane. Equipped with multiple USB ports, Navigator is capable of supporting touch screen displays, cameras, all cashless payment bezels and more as future applications become available. Navigator is VDI compliant to transmit remote DEX data to any vending management system, and has a patented MDB monitoring system to send machine service alerts, thus reducing down time.

In anticipation of the growing trend toward Near Field Communications (NFC) and e-wallet payment capabilities, Culinary Ventures Vending decided to implement a cashless program, sourcing cashless bezels from Crane. To connect those bezels to the Internet, the company also chose Crane as their supplier.

“In order to support the continued growth of our business, as well as the direction of the industry, we knew that we would need to increase our use of technology to better serve our customers, but also to help us increase our own sales and efficiencies,” said Doug Longworth, director of technology, Culinary Ventures Vending in a prepared statement. “Once we came to that conclusion, we immediately turned to Crane because of the integration capabilities available between Navigator and our existing Crane equipment and VendMAX software. Now, we can benefit not just from the increased sales a cashless payment option can provide, but also the enhanced efficiencies that result from having DEX data sent wirelessly to VendMAX.”

Culinary Ventures Vending will have its 3,000 Navigators installed by year end 2013.

“This technology has opened our eyes to the future of vending. It is the lifeline the industry needed for companies to start being profitable again and get excited,” added Longworth.
