Metro Votes To Allow Vending Machines, Food Businesses At Stations

Oct. 29, 2018

This week the Metro Board voted to allow vending machines and other vendors on the Metro property, according to wtop. Areas that Metrorail system riders pay to access would still be off limits and food/drinks are still banned on the Metro system.

Due to concerns about interfering with local or governmental efforts to increase small businesses around Metro stations, any vending machines or eateries will need a three month notification before a permit is approved.

The Metro Board hopes this change will provide an additional revenue stream from vending machine commissions, permit fees, leasing arrangements, etc.
