Landshire has expanded its recall of the Nike Sandwich as a precautionary measure to include the addition of the Nike Super Poor Boy Sandwich as well as increased production dates of the Nike All-American Sandwich, the company announced. The expanded recall includes 17,305 cases. The products may contain Listeria Monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The initial recall was issued on Oct. 20, 2011.
Two products are subject to recall: Landshire Nike All American and Landshire Nike Super Poor Boy. Production lot codes affected by the recall are from 11 237 6 through 11 285 6.
The lot number is printed in black ink on the side or back of the individual packaged sandwich. The 237 indicates the beginning Julian date and 285 indicates the ending Julian date of the lot numbers being recalled.
This is a pre-packaged, individually wrapped sandwich. Sandwich weight is 7.25 ounces (206 grams). The Nike All-American UPC code is 0 9748801741 5 and the Nike Super Poor Boy UPC code is 0 9748800001 1. The Nike Super Poor Boy sandwich may also be sold in a 2-count pack and an 8-count pack. The 2-count pack Nike Super Poor Boy UPC code is 0 9748800765 2 and the 8-count pack Nike Super Poor Boy UPC code is 0 9748800712 6.
The Nike All-American sandwiches were distributed nationwide at convenience stores, wholesale food distributors and supermarkets.
No confirmed illnesses have been reported.
