Protection Of Domestic Sugar Drives Up Candy Prices

The Plain Dealer newspaper, in Cleveland, Ohio, recently reported how Bryan, Ohio-based Spangler Candy Co., makers of Dum Dum lollipops, is struggling with high sugar costs. Because of tariffs and other measures meant to protect domestic sugar cane and sugar beets, U.S. consumers are paying more than twice the global market price.
