Restaurant Spending In February Shows Only Slight Growth

March 14, 2016

Consumer spending at restaurants appears to have slowed, as February’s same-store sales growth for the industry reached only 0.4 percent, reports Nation’s Restaurant News. The data is from TDn2K’s Black Box Intelligence through The Restaurant Industry Snapshot, based on weekly sales from over 23,000 restaurant units and more than 120 brands, representing $57 billion dollars in annual revenue. This “anemic” growth has fueled the fear that consumer spending on food away from home has stalled.

Editor’s Note: As a sector of overall foodservice, vending often experiences similar trends to restaurants. This could be an early indicator of what is to come for the economy at large, which would certainly affect the vending industry as well.
