California Lawmaker Proposes Banning Styrofoam For Food Takeout

A bill by California state Sen. Alan Lowenthal would prohibit restaurants, grocery stores and other retailers from dispensing food in expanded polystyrene containers, commonly known as Styrofoam, beginning in 2016, according to MSNBC.

Editor’s Insight: The California Automatic Vendors Association should join efforts to fight this ill conceived bill. While vending operators will not be the most severely affected, they need to be willing to help other foodservice industry groups since there are times when vending operators need support from other foodservice segments.
