The National Coffee Association (NCA) is preparing for changes under a new administration, focusing attention on key issues that could affect the coffee industry.
In a blog post, Joseph DeRupo, director of external relations for the NCA, noted that the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act (TFTEA), GMO Labeling, Food and Drug Administration Caffeine Initiative, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA): Pesticides, are all docket items that could impact the coffee sector. Specifically pertaining to GMO Labeling, DeRupo writes that legislation was signed earlier this summer that sets a national standard for GMO labeling and coffee products containing whiteners, sweeteners and other additives could be affected, though regulations remain to be written.
