State lawmakers in Maine consider plastic water bottle ban

March 24, 2021

The Maine State Legislature is considering a bill that would prohibit single-use disposable plastic water bottles in the Pine Tree State.

According to local news outlets, the proposal would only apply plastic water bottles that contain one liter of water or less.

The proposed ban would not affect soda, juice, or flavored water in single-serve bottles. And it wouldn’t apply during a public health or safety event like a state of emergency.

Poland Spring, trucking companies and International Bottled Water Industry oppose the bill

The Maine State Legislature adjourns on June 16.
