Less than a year after launching Diet Pepsi with sucralose, PepsiCo announced it will bring back the drink with the artificial sweetener aspartame in September, according to The Wall Street Journal. The company will now offer two versions of Diet Pepsi in U.S. stores, the source reports, in order to bolster sales of the drink.
In April 2015, PepsiCo said it would remove aspartame from Diet Pepsi, citing cola drinkers’ demands for an aspartame-free Diet Pepsi. Longtime Diet Pepsi consumers, however, took to social media to let their distaste of the product known.
U.S. retail sales of Diet Pepsi reportedly fell 10.6 percent in the first quarter of 2016.
