Amazon Reports Surge In Snack Sales

Sept. 20, 2017

Bakery And Snacks reports Amazon's U.S. revenue from sweets and snacks climbed 42 percent to $215 million in the first eight months of 2017. Last year, Amazon posted total sales of $240 million in those categories. The biggest category was Salty Snacks followed by Chocolate Candy and finally, Non-chocolate Candy. Dry fruit snacks experienced that largest growth, followed by meat snacks, granola and crackers. Impulse sales were driven by private brands, prime surprise sweets, Alexa and Candy Holidays, according to the source.

Editor's Insight: The surge in revenue from snacks and candy experienced by Amazon shows a shift in how consumers are buying what were previously impulse and convenience items.
