Demand for healthy-to-go snacks remains strong. Here’s how to capitalize
Driven by Gen Z and Millennial consumers, the demand for healthy convenience options in workspaces and other unattended retail outlets remains strong. At the same time, 75% of consumers skip a meal in favor of snacking at least weekly1, which means better-for-you snack options are high on consumers’ wish lists when they visit the micro market or vending machine. As a convenience service operator, stocking options that meet that demand can increase sales and profits.
In a new report, Nestlé Professional Solutions highlights key healthy snacking trend takeaways for operators.
Cater to diverse dietary preferences. Consider how to satisfy consumers seeking gluten-free, low-calorie, and plant-based choices. The increasing use of GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic and Wegovy means that some consumers prefer higher protein and nutrient-dense snacks. Smaller portion sizes, functional snacks and clean ingredients are high on these consumers’ wish lists.
Think convenience from start to finish. Ready-to-eat options offer ultimate convenience while microwaveable frozen items can offer a satisfying and convenient meal.
Have something for customers throughout the day. Consumers may visit a workplace micro market as they arrive at the office, for a mid-morning break, lunchtime, and an afternoon indulgence. By offering products covering all dayparts, operators can maximize sales throughout the day. Offering items that satisfy specific cravings, such as a healthy indulgence as an afternoon reward or slump preventer, will encourage repeat visits.
Invest in technology. For locations that support it, convert to micro markets, self-checkout and mobile payments to streamline the purchasing process and increase your average transaction value.
