Luke Saunders, CEO and founder of Farmer's Fridge, says the company pivoted toward delivery service as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company, which opened in 2013, has also supplied food to thousands of healthcare workers on the front lines.Saunders explains how these actions align with Farmer’s Fridge' mission of enabling people to have speedy access to fresh food.
Q: What is one key to success you have committed to, especially now with the coronavirus pandemic?
A: We immediately recognized that demand was going to massively shift in our network, so we stepped back to ask ourselves how we could leverage our assets — team, technology, supply chain, etc. — to meet the new demand. With millions of people suddenly working from home, delivery seemed the right strategic direction. In particular, we can provide healthy meals at a lower average price per meal than traditional delivery platforms, so we have a competitive advantage that is aligned with our mission, our customers and our assets.
Q: Could you share with us a story of your employees going above and beyond during this crisis?
A: Our team is working diligently to supply food to roughly 30,000 healthcare workers a week. I'm deeply proud of how our company is working closely with hospitals to provide nutritious meals to front line workers in need.
