U.S. House Votes To Delay Overtime Pay Rule

Oct. 3, 2016

The U.S. House of Representatives approved a measure to delay by six months a rule that will require employers to pay overtime to salaried workers earning less than $47,500 per year, Reuters reports. The House passed the legislation 246-177 voting to move the rule’s effective date from Dec. 1 to June 1.

The White House announced that President Obama would veto any legislation delaying the rule, however.

The source reports that the legislation, “…also faces likely opposition by Senate Democrats who would block it from advancing in that chamber.”

The U.S. Department of Labor announced its long-awaited changes to the federal overtime rule in May 2016.
