The Long Beach, CA, city council has passed a resolution to re-establish health guidelines for products sold in snack vending machines on city property. Long Beach Post reports that the resolution would require 100 percent of beverages and snacks at youth serving sites to meet U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) guidelines. It would also require other vending machines on city property to be at least half filled with snacks meeting the same USDA guidelines. The city council also asked the city staff to re-evaluate the guidelines and explore ways to implement stronger measures on trans and saturated fats.
