Iowa Company Fights To Keep Vending Machine On City Owned Sidewalk

July 16, 2015

In order to expand operations after business hours, Gone Fishin’ Sporting Goods store located in Storm Lake, IA, installed a vending machine on a city sidewalk. The machine, which had been in operation for three days and averaged $300 per day in sales, experienced some kickback from city officials, reports Siouxland Matters. Despite the success of the machine, the city council said the machine would be a hazard to pedestrians and cited a city ordinance that says products could not be sold on city-owned sidewalks, the source reports. City officials forced the business owner to shut down the vending machine.
