American Heart Month: NAMA Encourages Members To Leverage Opportunity To Showcase Nutrition Efforts, FitPick®

Jan. 16, 2015

(CHICAGO)  January 15, 2015 – Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the U.S. To prevent heart disease and increase awareness, NAMA is supporting American Heart Month as an opportunity for members to communicate their efforts to deliver nutrition information directly to consumers.

“At schools and workplaces throughout the country, using FitPick and other aligned programs, our members help communicate important nutrition information directly to millions of consumers,” said Roni Moore, NAMA’s VP of Marketing and Communications.  “American Heart Month is a good opportunity to extend the reach of these efforts by reminding consumers of the important ways they can make healthy changes, including making informed snack and beverage choices.”

According to the American Heart Association, consumers can make healthy changes to lower the risk of developing heart disease. Controlling and preventing risk factors is also important for people who already have heart disease.

Here are some simple tips to share:

  • Watch your weight.
  • Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke.
  • Control your cholesterol and blood pressure.
  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
  • Get active and eat healthy.
