Mexico’s President Announces Plans For National Soda Tax

President Enrique Pena Nieto of Mexico is taking a bold step to help collect more revenue and fight his country’s obesity problem – he wants to add a one peso (7.6 cents) tax on all sugary beverages, according to the Christian Science Monitor. Mexico has one of the highest obesity rates and consumes more soda per year than the U.S., reports the article. The country’s legislature still has to pass the proposed tax. Full article.
