The College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn. and Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. are joining a national movement to ban bottled water from campus cafeterias and admissions offices, according to The Star-Tribune in Minneapolis, Minn. http://www.startribune.com/local/129195988.html
Editor’s Insight: Colleges continue to ban bottled water while hundreds of thousands of Americans are threatened by natural disasters that imperil safe drinking water. Someone should point out this inconsistency on these campuses.
Campus political organizations that are inclined to confront prevailing orthodoxies should consider promoting the benefits of bottled water.
One spokesperson for the bottled water ban is quoted in this article saying that access to water is a human right that people should not have to pay for. Too bad Mother Nature doesn’t always recognize human rights. 09-06-11 by Elliot Maras
