Daily coffee habits: 85% start each morning with coffee, says NCA

Sept. 12, 2025

Coffee continues to hold its place as a daily drink for Americans, with 66% of adults reporting they drink it every day, according to new data from the National Coffee Association. Its Fall 2025 National Coffee Data Trends report shows coffee ranks just behind bottled water as the nation’s most consumed beverage.

The survey, conducted by Dig Insights, found that while most drinkers (85%) drink coffee at home, the average drinker consumes nearly three cups per day. With 62% of respondents reporting they’d had a traditional coffee, and 57% had had a specialty coffee, consumption trends continue to incorporate specialty coffee options at a high rate. Cold, iced and frozen blended coffee accounted for 31% of coffee consumed in June, for instance, reflecting seasonal trends as well.

Instant coffee and ready-to-drink options have grown notably, according to the NCA data, with 11% of adults reporting instant coffee consumption — up from 6% in 2021 — and 19% choosing ready-to-drink coffee, more than double the 9% recorded in 2021.

Coffee was the beverage of choice on the go for more than one-third of respondents, with 36% of respondents reporting they’d consumed coffee on the go the previous day.
