The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment in California is proposing a regulation that would reassure coffee drinkers in the state that drinking coffee does not cause cancer, despite a judge ruling that coffee must carry a warning label stating that it does, according to the Association Press. The action was taken after a review of more than 1,000 studies published by the World Health Organization that showed inadequate evidence that coffee causes cancer, says the article. This proposed rule appears to be an attempt to nullify judgement of an eight-year lawsuit that reached a new level in April of 2018 when a judge declared that coffee much bear a cancer causing warning label in California.
