News Source Investigates Single-Serve Coffee’s Impact On U.S. Coffee Consumption

June 25, 2015

This week K-Cups are making headlines because Reuters published an article claiming Americans are spending more on coffee, but drinking less.  The basis of the article is statistics, such as that U.S. coffee consumption is expected to fall to 23.7 million 132.27-pound bags, while a record breaking $12.8 billion is expected to be spent on that coffee in 2015.

The article does note that consumers are opting for specialty roasts, which cost more, and that less coffee is poured down the sink drain when consumers use a single-serve brewer driving down the actual amount of coffee needed to service the same number of people.
