New beverage varieties like energy drinks, sports drinks and ready-to-drink coffee beverages are gaining popularity with U.S. consumers, but sales have not grown enough to make up for the decrease in soda, reports The New York Times. Although one day energy and sports drinks could replace the soda that consumers stop drinking, says the source, this segment of beverages right now is small. Bottled water sales are the fastest-growing part of the market, while fruit and juice drink sales are also in decline.
