Beijing’s Cheetah Mobile Inc., a mobile internet company developing AI-driven robotic solutions, has unveiled an intelligent vending robot that it plans to market internationally. According to Cheetah Mobile, the FANBOT autonomously identifies and approaches potential customers in complex and high-traffic environments. Locations might include shopping malls, retail stores, gyms, theaters, libraries, hotel lobbies and airport terminals, among other sites.

To identify potential customers, the FANBOT uses biometric technology, not facial recognition, to detect passersby’s gender, age range and emotions within a five-meter radius. Once identified, FANBOT approaches the customer to promote products, engage in voice interactions and, if a sale is made, complete cashless transactions.
A FANBOT can carry up to 66 different items, including beverages, snacks, stationery, beauty products and clothing.
