AVI Foodsystems Implements Bluefin PCI-Validated P2PE Solution

April 25, 2018

ATLANTA APRIL 25, 2018

Leading payment security provider Bluefin Payment Systems today released a case study with AVI Foodsystems, America’s largest, family-owned and operated food and hospitality provider, on AVI’s implementation of Bluefin’s PCI-validated Point-to-Point Encryption (P2PE) solution for AVI’s back-office payments.

Founded in 1960, AVI Foodsystems has evolved into one of the most respected and trusted food service companies in the nation. AVI serves thousands of clients and millions of customers daily through the company’s contemporary cafés, state-of-the-art vending programs, innovative micro markets, premier catering services, superior concession venues and exclusive beverage and coffee systems.

AVI was seeking a PCI-validated P2PE solution for their client locations across the U.S. that provided the highest level of payment encryption, but they also wanted to attain PCI network scope reduction without the need for AVI to re-certify the solution each year.

“First, the scope reduction would remove our client’s data networks from the PCI audit process, avoiding the unmanageable costs and unreasonable levels of risk for our clients to be involved in AVI’s annual PCI audit,” said Ron Kerensky, Chief Information Officer for AVI. “Second, P2PE solutions also significantly reduce the risk of a breach involving our customer’s credit card data by eliminating the storage and transfer of decipherable card holder data. Extending P2PE into our card not present environment presented a very clear cost, time and risk savings opportunity for us.”

Through AVI’s payment processing partner, Nodus Technologies, AVI implemented Bluefin’s PCI-validated P2PE solution for their back-office payments. In 2017, Nodus, a leading provider of electronic payment, eCommerce, and accounts receivable automation software for small and mid-size companies, partnered with Bluefin for Decryptx®, Bluefin’s Decryption as a Service (DaaS) product, which enables payment gateways, processors and ISV’s to provide Bluefin’s PCI-validated P2PE solution directly through their platform.

The case study details the Bluefin / Nodus P2PE solution, why AVI Foodsystems chose a PCI-validated P2PE solution versus a non-validated P2PE solution, the implementation of the solution, and the expected cost benefits and ROI.

“AVI Foodsystems is a payment security pioneer in the foodservice and micro market industries,” said Greg Cornwell, Head of Global Sales, Bluefin. “Ron and his team advocated for the adoption of a PCI-validated P2PE solution because they understood how important this technology is to securing credit card data while also reducing PCI compliance scope for their organization. We are very appreciative that AVI allowed us to detail their decision-making process, implementation, results to date and expected outcome, and share that with other companies that are interested in learning more about PCI-validated P2PE.”

The AVI Foodsystems case study is available for download on the Bluefin website.
