Apriva Blog: What’s Involved In EMV Certification

Nov. 1, 2016

The work that goes into EMV certification is much more complicated than it appears, according to a blog recently published by Apriva. The company delves deep into the steps it takes to certify just one processor over one gateway on one device. Apriva reports that first, an EMV Application Request needs to be submitted to the payment processor which can take weeks to be approved or denied. If approved, the payment processor needs to assign a Certification Analyst, which can also take months depending on whether or not the analyst has other certifications to complete. Beyond these steps, there needs to be Magnetic-Stripe certification, pre-certification EMV testing and card-brand EMV certification.
