Apriva, the provider of end-to-end wireless transactions and secure information solutions, announced that its Point-of-Sale (POS) gateway processed a record $7.035 billion in wireless transactions during 2011, a 27 percent increase over the previous mark of $5.527 Billion it handled during 2010. Apriva closed the 2011 calendar year by processing $1.89 Billion in transactions during the fourth quarter, the most successful quarter in the company’s 13-year history.
“Apriva had a stellar 2011, not just in terms of transaction volume, but also in terms of expanding our market presence in the payments, vending, and mobile commerce arenas,” said Paul Coppinger, president of Apriva in a prepared statement. “The POS business units, including our core gateway services, Apriva Vend™ unattended payment service, and mobile payment solutions, each gained market share over the course of the year. In addition, Apriva significantly expanded its reach by surpassing 560 active channel partners, which represents the largest distribution network in the payments sector. All of these factors, combined with the launch of our new Apriva Wallet™ solution, should translate into even greater growth through 2012 and beyond.”
Apriva’s mobile payment solutions provide secure and reliable payment processing access via wireless networks throughout North America. The company provides services to merchants through a wide network of merchant acquirers, financial institutions, mobile operators, and independent sales organizations (ISOs). Apriva works with over 30 leading payment processors throughout the United States and Canada, and supports transactions over all major carrier networks.
An end-to-end solution, Apriva Vend gives operators the ability to cost-effectively integrate cashless vending into their operations to improve customer satisfaction, increase operational efficiency and capture better sales and profit margins. Apriva Vend’s comprehensive service incorporates system hardware and software, wireless connectivity, transaction and alarm reporting capabilities, and integration with leading payment processors and financial institutions.
Released in early January 2012, the Apriva Wallet is a mobile commerce platform that is infrastructure-agnostic, and can interoperate with any payment processor, financial institution and wireless carrier. It works with current, magnetic stripe payment technologies and does not require physical changes to the point of sale environment. As emerging standards such as NFC and EMV gain traction in the marketplace, the Apriva Wallet will incorporate support as well. It is compatible with both the Apple iOS and Android™ operating systems, and a Windows Phone® version is scheduled to release later this year. The solution can be white labeled by merchants, and integrates a number of advanced features, including electronic payments, receipts, advertising, loyalty programs, couponing, location-based services, social media, and secure storage for personal cards like drivers licenses, ID cards, and other information.
“Apriva’s growth underscores the growing importance of mobility to merchants,” said George Peabody, director of Mercator Advisory Group’s Emerging Technologies Advisory Services. “The company’s security and flexible processing systems positions it to offer new solutions—like the Apriva Wallet—as well as to capitalize on continued growth in mobile payments volume.”
