Hillshire Reserve expands lunchmeat with five varieties

Tyson Foods subsidiary Hillshire Reserve is entering the premium lunchmeat space with smoked ham, turkey and chicken varieties.

Pushing into the premium meat-snack space, Hillshire Reserve has introduced five new lunchmeats.

Made without preservatives, each meat product contains 11 to 13 g of protein per serving. Varieties include Applewood Smoked Ham, Applewood Smoked Turkey Breast, Mesquite Smoked Chicken Breast, Herb Smoked Turkey Breast and Smoked Maple Ham.

The Tyson Foods brand is initially distributed through retail outlets.

Why this matters for convenience services operators

  • Premium lunchmeat appeals to consumers looking for options for charcuterie boards and protein plates. Such products fit meal and snack options for multiple dayparts.
  • Products with brand recognition, clear protein callouts and recognizable ingredients can support better-for-you merchandising strategies. Operators must be aware of price sensitivity in some locations.
