Compostable foodservice items from Emerald Ecovations can help meet sustainability goals
Emerald Ecovations has expanded its line of sustainable products for food service, adding 50 compostable molded fiber and clear PLA plant-based items. The molded fiber products include clamshells, plates, burrito bowls and lunch trays while the PLA line includes clear cold cups, salad bowls, deli containers and clamshells.
The molded fiber products use miscanthus, a rapidly renewable plant. The company recently acquired a Miscanthus facility in Arkansas to support production.
The PLA line addresses consumers’ desires to eliminate petroleum-based plastics. The plant-based products are derived from renewable plant sources and are certified commercially compostable, the company says.
“Our molded fiber and PLA solutions help our customers significantly reduce their environmental footprint, directly contributing to measurable savings in trees, water, plastics avoided, and compostable waste diverted from landfills,” said Ralph Bianculli, CEO of Emerald Ecovations, in a release.
