The Florida Institute of Technology’s Nathan Bisk College of Business is home to a micro market and it’s all because some students got creative. According to FloridaToday, when faculty and students moved into the new campus building in 2014, there was no food or beverage option available, so Professor Tim Muth challenged students to find a solution.
To them, vending wasn’t an option, and the university also wasn’t going to hire staff for a manned café. The students began researching options and discovered Avenue C micro markets, operated by Canteen in Brevard County.
The micro market features a Starbucks coffee machine, something the students were looking for when they looked at foodservice options, and users pay with cash or credit cards at the kiosk. Thomas Haynie, a student, told the source, “We saw a problem, we came up with a solution and the university implemented it. It inspires me to do that more."
