Aramark Sacramento commissary workers vote to join Teamsters

Workers at an Aramark Commissary operation in Sacramento have voted to join Teamsters Local 150, according to the union. The group includes 45 employees who work in the commissary at a correctional facility in Sacramento County. The workers receive and process incoming products and prepare and complete orders for delivery to inmates, the union said.

Dale Wentz, secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local 150, said the election adds new members and credited Teamsters Joint Council 7 for its role in the organizing effort. Wentz said the vote is significant for the facility and could resonate with other Aramark workers in California seeking a strong labor contract.

Aramark is a global provider of food, facilities and uniform services. At the Sacramento County site, commissary workers support purchases that allow families and friends to provide inmates with food, personal and hygiene items, writing materials and art supplies, the union said.

Valentino Edwards, an Aramark commissary employee, said workers are seeking a contract to improve pay and provide access to retirement and health care benefits.
