Performance Food Group announced a planned leadership transition, with CEO George Holm moving into the role of executive chair of the board of directors, effective January 1, 2026. At the same time, Scott McPherson, currently president and COO, will become CEO and join the company’s board.

According to the company, Holm will remain closely involved with PFG’s direction as executive chair, focusing on mergers and acquisitions, key customer relationships and overall strategy. Holm said the transition reflects a succession plan developed as the company’s team, strategy and business momentum have strengthened.

“I’m honored to step into the role of CEO at this exciting time for PFG,” McPherson said in a statement. “I believe our company has tremendous growth potential as we focus on driving top-line performance — supporting our existing customers while winning new business through collaboration across our diverse segments .” He emphasized that the company will continue investing in technologies designed to improve operational efficiency and bottom-line performance.

PFG highlighted McPherson’s three decades of industry experience, including his prior role as CEO of Core-Mark. Since January 2025, he has served as PFG’s president and COO. Before that, McPherson was chief field operations officer, overseeing the Performance Foodservice, Core-Mark and Vistar segments beginning in January 2024. The company credited him with contributions in sales and marketing, supply chain management, divisional operations and culture.

Lead independent director Manuel A. Fernandez said in a statement that the transition follows a multi-year succession process by the board and supports strategic objectives outlined at PFG’s 2025 Investor Day.
