American Licorice Co., the maker of the Red Vines and Sour Punch candies, said it has acquired the Torie & Howard candy brand. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Torie & Howard was cofounded in 2012 by Torie Burke and Howard Slatkin who pledged to produce health friendly and socially conscious treats. Burke is joining American Licorice to continue developing the brand he cofounded.
Torie & Howard Organic Hard Candy and Chewie Fruities Organic Candy Chews were created for consumers with keen palates who crave indulgent treats with natural ingredients. The candies are USDA organic and Kosher certified, allergen friendly, non-GMO, vegan and gluten free.
The Torie & Howard acquisition complements recent investments by American Licorice, including taking a minority stake in Theo Chocolate Inc., the first organic, fair-trade certified chocolate maker in North America, and an investment in Mindful Nourishment LLC, the creators of nutritional snack Zing bars.
American Licorice Co. was founded in 1914 in Chicago in 1914 and today is headquartered in La Porte, IN. The company has manufacturing facilities in Union City, CA, and at its La Porte headquarters.
