Dec. 16, 2018 was the anniversary of the first patented vending machine in America, according to CBS News. It was 134 years ago that William Henry Fruen patented his "Automatic Liquid-Drawing Device." It looked like a building and dispensed mineral water after a coin was deposited. The vending machine is a well-known icon featured in dozens of movies since its inception.
