Amazon Announces Restaurant Delivery In Chicago

Jan. 21, 2016

Amazon.com, Inc. announced that Prime Now customers in Chicago, IL can now receive delivery from local restaurants. The move comes only a few months after it was reported that the retail giant was testing and then launched home and workplace restaurant delivery.

Chicago will be added to the growing list of cities where Amazon currently offers restaurant delivery including Austin, TX, Los Angeles, CA, Portland, OR, Baltimore, MD and Seattle, WA. Consumerist reports that Amazon plans to rapidly expand the service to major cities. In Portland, Amazon also delivers from some of the city’s food trucks as well.

The average delivery time since introducing restaurant delivery on Prime Now is 39 minutes.

Editor’s note: For operators located in urban areas, delivery has always been part of the competition; but that is true now more than ever. Consumers are willing to pay for convenience, but how much? This is something our industry will need to watch and respond to.
