Sodexo Campus agreement aims to speed campus robot delivery launches

The companies say autonomous delivery could extend campus dining access beyond traditional service points.

Sodexo Campus and Avride have inked an agreement to expand autonomous robot delivery across Sodexo Campus partner colleges and universities. The two companies expect to roll out robot-delivered dining services more quickly at participating campuses. Sodexo Campus works with about 425 higher education institutions in the U.S.

Avride’s robots use sensors and machine learning to navigate sidewalks and deliver orders in pedestrian-heavy areas. The company says its technology is operating at The Ohio State University, Indiana University Bloomington, the University of Arizona and Salisbury University.

Avride reports that it has completed more than 600,000 autonomous deliveries across campuses and cities. The companies say campus delivery could extend dining access and give students, faculty and staff more flexibility in where they receive meals.

The agreement adds robot delivery to Sodexo Campus’s broader mix of campus dining and convenience options, which includes micro markets, grab-and-go markets, kiosks, mobile pickup and smart vending.
