Breakfast Trends Help U.S. Restaurant Traffic Growth

Aug. 6, 2015

Breakfast items are fueling consumers’ stomachs and restaurants’ pocketbooks. According to TIME, sales of coffee, pancakes and doughnuts are aiding in U.S. restaurant traffic growth, driven by the improving U.S. job market and the all-day breakfast eaters dubbed “Breakfastarians.”

In fact, according to research firm NPD Group, breakfast visits were up 4 percent for the year ended May 2015, due in large part to gains at fast-food chains, while lunch and dinner visits were flat. McDonald’s, Panera Bread and Starbucks recently highlighted the positive growth of breakfast sales in their quarterly reports.
