In a 12-1 vote the Kansas City, MO City Council approved a measure that increases the city’s minimum wage to $13 per hour by 2020, FOX 4 reports. The current minimum wage of $7.65 will increase to $8.50 per hour beginning Aug. 24 this year.
Other cities across the country are taking minimum wage into their own hands as well. In May the Los Angeles, CA City Council approved a $15 per hour minimum wage. Last December the city council in Chicago, IL moved to raise their city’s minimum wage to $13 per hour by 2019.
