Ohio School Secretary Steals More Than $7K From District Vending Machines

April 2, 2015

A former building secretary with the Wauseon Exempted Village School District in Fulton County, OH, stole more than $7,000 from the school district’s vending machines from fiscal year 2013 through October of fiscal year 2015, Highland County Press reports.

According to an audit released by Auditor of State Dave Yost, the former secretary—whose responsibilities included collecting money from district vending machines and depositing it into the school district’s bank account—deposited only $3,834 into the district’s bank account in that time period. The source reports the district should have received between $10,853 and $11,653, leaving between $7,019 and $7,819 unaccounted for.

The suspect pleaded guilty to one count of theft in office.
