Employers added 157,000 jobs in January, down from November’s 196,000 jobs, reports the U.S. Department of Labor. The change in job creation spiked unemployment rates from 7.8 percent to 7.9 percent.
Food services and drinking places jobs were relatively flat, reporting a slim .17 percent increase in job creation, from 10,096 to 10,114 jobs in January. Food and beverage stores also slightly increased job numbers from the month prior up .23 percent. Food manufacturing reported a slight .05 percent decrease in job production.
