Christine Cochran will serve as its next president and CEO, the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) announced today. Cochran will join the association on December 2, succeeding Carla Balakgie, who is retiring after 14 years leading the U.S. convenience services industry organization.

Cochran, who has led SNAC International since 2022 and previously served as executive director of the Grain Foods Foundation, brings extensive experience in nutrition, food manufacturing and regulatory advocacy. She also served as president of the Commodity Markets Council and holds a juris doctor from Georgetown University Law Center and a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from the University of Missouri.

“I am honored to join NAMA at such a pivotal moment for the U.S. convenience services industry,” Cochran said in a release. “With more than 165,000 jobs supported and 40 million consumers served daily, this industry plays a critical role in delivering accessible nutrition and innovative solutions to people at work and on the go.”

Patrick Moran, NAMA chair, search committee chair and owner of Moran Refreshments, praised Cochran’s track record in strategic leadership and operational growth. “Christine has consistently demonstrated strategic vision, operational expertise and a focus on growth. Her track record makes her the right leader to guide NAMA forward,” Moran said.

Michael Schwartz, NAMA chair-elect and a search committee member, noted that Cochran’s background in CPG and regulatory issues will help NAMA continue to protect and grow the industry.

“Christine brings a deep knowledge of consumer packaged goods, food and nutrition to NAMA. Her background in food manufacturing and related regulatory issues ensures NAMA will continue to protect the industry while growing association programs and services,” said Schwartz, vice president of field and account sales for Nestlé Professional Solutions.

Balakgie will remain with NAMA through the end of 2025 to ensure a smooth transition.
