NAMA Announces Release Of 2018 Industry Census Results

Aug. 5, 2019

CHICAGO – August 5, 2019 – The NAMA Foundation announced today that the 2018 Industry Census is now available to both members and non-members on the NAMA website.

“The industry census is an important benchmark for member companies and stakeholders to identify significant trends and overall opportunities to successfully guide their businesses,” said Terri Bruce, Director, NAMA Foundation.

“Among the significant findings: revenue for the industry has grown nearly one billion dollars since the 2016 census to $26 billion. Growth, attributed to business diversification and technology, is the overarching discovery,” said Eric Dell, NAMA’s Senior Vice President, External Affairs.

Additional highlights include:

·     Vending continues to generate the largest share—over 70% -- of the industry’s revenue.

·      Micro market revenues continue to rise, paving the way for the nearly billion-dollar increase in revenue for the overall industry.

·      Office Coffee Services continued a steady 8% growth over the two-year period.

·      Pantry services grew significantly, prompting NAMA to formally add it as a distinct channel.

·      Operators continue to increase diversification, expanding business lines and product offerings.

·      New data regarding contactless payments, digital monitors/displays, pre-kitting and business trends.

·      Directionally, “better for you” choices continue to expand to meet consumer demands.

In 2018, the NAMA Foundation commissioned the third comprehensive census of the convenience services industry. The goals of the study include determining current industry size and makeup, tracking progress since the initial 2014 census, and generating meaningful and definitive metrics on the industry — for both businesses and stakeholders. The census focuses on qualitative and quantitative research with operators and other key industry participants.

The census, funded by the NAMA Foundation, is free to all NAMA Members and $150 for non-members. To download a copy click here.
