Many students in Pennsylvania's Bucks County schools are not purchasing the healthy snacks that are required in school vending machines, according to Bucks County Courier Times.
Eric Cardonick, president of Advanced Services vending company in Bensalem, PA, told the source that the profits that schools make from vending machine snack sales have decreased by 50 percent since the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act went into effect in 2010.
The Bensalem Township School District revenue from vending machines went from around $140,000 per year to about $40,000 per year post Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act.
While the school district is losing money on vending machines sales, others have reported a rise in a la carte food sales.
