Prince George’s County, MD, Weighs Healthy Vending Bill

Sept. 29, 2016

Prince George’s County, MD, City Council is looking to add healthier options to vending machines on county, municipal and park and planning property, according to The Washington Post. Vice Chair Danielle Glaros introduced legislation that would require that 50 percent of packaged food and beverages in vending machines located on county property meet federal health standards. Meanwhile, 65 percent of items sold would have to be healthy when it comes to future vending contracts.

Glaros’s bill also states that healthier snack items must be comparably priced or less expensive than other products with lower nutritional value.
