Consumer Snacking Trends: Portability, Prepackaged, Quality Ingredients

July 27, 2016

The latest research confirms that consumers prefer portability when on-the-go and will pay more for healthier snacks and indulgent treats, according to an article on Foodnavigator-usa.com. Based on the June 2016 Mintel report “Snacking in Foodservice,” the source reports that making snacks portable for on-the-go consumption was desired by 67 percent of consumers aged 18 to 44. That number dropped significantly, to 26 percent, for respondents over age 45.

A majority of Millennials also preferred prepackaged snacks, such as those from the grocery store [or possibly vending machines] over snacks from specialty snack shops like ice cream parlors, bakeries and smoothie bars.

Foodnavigator-usa.com also cites that three out of four Americans are willing to pay extra for snacks made with high quality ingredients. While this might include healthy snacks, it also includes quality indulgent snacks, which are preferred by many consumers.
