Salad Vending Machine Promotes Salads As 60% Less Expensive Than Fast Casual Chains

July 18, 2016

An article on Food.Mic highlights the recent success of entrepreneur-founded company Farmer’s Fridge, which places vending machines regularly stocked with fresh salads in the Chicago, IL area. Farmer’s Fresh has a Yelp rating of 4.5, according to the source, and has grown 75% in the last 90 days. Plus, a big selling point is the fresh salads sell for 20 to 60 percent less than a premium salad at a restaurant. The salads are usually one pound and cost between $5 to $12.

Editor’s note: So far, this vending machine is breaking the commonly held belief that consumers won’t buy fresh food from a vending machine. Perhaps it’s the look of the machine and the message of the owner. It’s too early to tell if Farmer’s Fridge will be a long-term success story, but it continues to grow, which is worth watching.
