Pepsi MidAmerica replaces legacy system to track vending equipment

Pepsi MidAmerica replaced a legacy vending management system with a platform covering more than 6,000 machines and more than 400 micro markets.

Pepsi MidAmerica has replaced its legacy, DOS-based vending management system with EZO EAM, a platform the bottler uses to track more than 6,000 vending machines and 400 micro markets and other equipment across 11 locations. EZO announced the implementation earlier this month.

The new platform lets employees locate equipment, manage service work orders and maintain records of where machines are deployed.

“We replaced a DOS-based system that couldn’t reliably tell us where our equipment was,” said Nick Powless, director of information systems at Pepsi MidAmerica, in a release. “Now, I can search for a vending machine in EZO EAM and know exactly where it is.” Pepsi MidAmerica also said improved visibility has helped it recover equipment previously written off as lost.

The bottler has integrated EZO EAM with existing systems using application programming interfaces, Nintex and internally developed technology. When a vending machine is assigned to a customer location, automated workflows can record the assignment and create a work order. Field technicians can access work orders, equipment details and checklists through the mobile application.

Pepsi MidAmerica said accurate location records also help it monitor sales-tax compliance, since requirements can depend on where individual machines are deployed. The company plans to expand automation and is working on a Route4Me routing integration.
